Project Good News Brazil, (PGNB) began in 1998. Gordon And Annie Avey, cross cultural ministers with the Churches of God, General Conference were asked to come to the aid of a small sturggling church in Araraquara in the state of Sao Paulo. Believing this was an open door to a church planting ministry, Cross Cultural Ministries of CGGC approved the project. Since that humble beginning, God has brought together a talented and visionary team of Brazilian leaders through whom has been ignited a church planting movement throughout Brazil.
In January of 2000, the PGNB was organized and officially registered by Brazilian law as, The Nacional Good News Bible Conference of Brazil. The bylaws state that each church must be identified as, Good News Bible Church. At the present time there are Good News Churches in three states of Brazil.
Testimony
Gordon and Annie felt the call of God for Brazil while studying at Bible College in Arlington, Texas in the early 70's. After hearing the appeal of a Brazilian pastor who was special speaker at a mission conference, Gordon turned and ask Annie, "You want to go to Brazil?" to which Annie replied...."Where's Brazil!!" The young couple then ask the Lord to open the doors to the mission field or close them. This prayer was answered by 30 years of open doors to ministry in Brazil. The Aveys served in Brazil from 1977 - 1989.
They returned to the USA and Gordon pastored a church in Green Camp, Ohio from 1989 - 1994. During which time Gordon studied at Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findaly, Ohio where he earned an M.Div. In January 1994 Gordon and Annie were approved the Churches of God, General Conferece to return to Brazil to continue their ministry of leadership development and church planting.
